A very nice condition shell with Scoville adjustable time fuse. The shell is fired but must have been picked up very shortly thereafter as there is no rust and lathe marks are fully visible. Fuse can be unsrewed and also turns to adjust timing. The base of the shell has punched engraving that correlates to the time of the Armistice and obviously done to commemorate that momentous event. Engraving reads “Pvt GEORGE W. CLANIN / 5TH COMPANY / GHQ /CAMP JACKSON / COLUMBIA S.C. / 11:30 AM / NOV. 12, 1918”. Clanin was 24 hours late but this is most likely when they heard the news of the wars end.
