WWII JAPANESE SHIN-GUNTO ARMY OFFICER’S SWORD

This is a very nice WWII era Japanese Army officer’s sword which was made using traditional methods. Sword measures 35 inches overall with a 25-inch blade. Blade is outstanding with prominent wavy temper line and is free of nicks or spotting.  Grip wrapping is the standard green/brown cloth with ray skin grip featuring brass cherry blossom menuki. The tang is unmarked other than some painted numbers.  The wood scabbard is covered with brown leather combat cover, there is some loose stitching along lower seam. Wood scabbard is unfinished. Fittings are of the standard military style.  Condition is very good with excellent blade, there is a small crack on ray skin grip and the scabbard shows the expected age wear. A very nice sword which is almost certainly a soldier’s war trophy.
