The S84/98 III was the standard-issue bayonet for the German Wehrmacht’s Karabiner 98k (K98k) rifle, featuring a 10-inch blued blade, wooden or Bakelite grips, and a flash guard on the grip to protect the hand during combat. These bayonets were produced in the millions and were designed for durability and functionality in battlefield conditions. The scabbard, typically blued or painted black, protected the blade and often included a frog stud for attachment to a soldier’s belt.
This example is a 42 cof indicating manufacture in 1942 by Carl Eickhorn. Both the blade and scabbard are stamped 42 cof and opposite side is stamped with 2750. Waffenampt is stamped on pommel of knife and button of scabbard. The blade retains approximately 80% of the bluing with wear mostly near tip. the balance of metal is an attractive plum color. Bakelite grips are near excellent. Scabbard is dent free and has an even plum patina. A very nice K98 bayonet with matched scabbard.
