Steel-covered New Testaments were a popular keepsake for soldiers heading off to fight in World War II. Marketed in newspapers and magazines as bullet protection, these small books were meant to be carried in the pocket over the heart, serving as both a symbol and a shield. This particular one was given to Homer O. Amos, Jr. by his mother, with an inscription on the first page.
The Bible is in very good condition, with the gilt on the steel cover mostly faded but some highlights still visible. The original shipping box shows signs of wear and age, and a few of the closure flaps are missing.
