In the Mediterranean, pilots designated “air liaison officers” riding in tanks equipped with VHF radios could communicate with aircraft overhead, requesting attacks on targets and receiving reports of enemy forces ahead. The patching on the jacket indicate that the owner was not only Air Corps but also attached to the 5th Army ground forces.
The jacket has a beautiful bullion 15th Air Force patch on right sleeve along with a 5th Army patch on the left sleeve. The collar brass are for Air Corps. There are tech 4 rank stripes on both sleeves and 3 overseas stripes on lower left sleeve, a ruptured duck is sewn on right breast of jacket. Also comes with the Air Corps piped overseas cap. Not named but does have laundry number. Overall, very nice condition. There are a couple of moth nips, one just below collar about the size of a pencil eraser. A scarce jacket with unique patches.
