A very good condition Imperial Japanese Army enlisted wool field cap. Coarse wool body with slightly stiffened brim with 5 rows of stitching on underside. Three sewn grommets on each side for ventilation. Leather chinstrap is in excellent condition and held in place by brass buttons. A 5-pointed star is sewn to front of cap. Interior has full cotton liner with inspection stamps. Leather sweatband shows light wear from wartime use.
This cap came out of a trunk grouping that belonged to Lt. Commander Herbert L. Herscher, Naval Surgeon of the 8th AAA USMC. This group saw action during the battle of Okinawa and this is almost certainly a bring home from there.
Excellent overall condition for a hat that was issued and saw wartime use.
