NAMED WW2 USMC CAPTAIN’S TRUNK GROUPING

The collection includes an officer’s green dress coat, matching trousers, a long-sleeved khaki Marine Corps shirt, a khaki dress coat, a black Sam Brown belt, an officer’s overseas cap, and an officer’s visor hat. The shirt and khaki coat are stenciled with the name R.H. Sherman. The belt bears a different name. I believe the group to have belonged to Robert H. Sherman, who served as an enlisted member in the 1st Marine Division and was later selected for officer candidate school towards the war’s end. He resigned his commission for an expedited discharge but was recalled for service in the Korean War. The khaki coat has a few insect nips, and the green coat may have a couple, but both remain highly presentable.
