While the P42 camo uniform was widely distributed, its pockets proved problematic. Marines frequently reported losing cigarettes, rations, and equipment due to the absence of secure fastenings. To address these issues, the USMC introduced the P44 during the later stages of the Pacific War. This updated uniform was made from the same reversible frogskin camo as the P42. The P44 Camo Coat was essentially a large, loose-fitting overshirt, shorter in length than the P41 jacket but still equipped with a button placket and adjustable cuffs. The most significant improvement was the addition of spacious chest pockets on either side of the button placket. These pockets, secured with convenient snap buttons, were large enough to hold a box of K Rations and other essentials.
Coat has shows use and wear but displays superbly. There is fraying around buttonholes and one button has been replaced with a wartime US Navy button. The front buttons are the steel US MARINE CORPS type while the cuff buttons are brass with Marine Corps logo. The jacket is reversible camo with jungle and beach patterns. A nice jacket that looks to have seen wartime use.
