This is a WW2 Distinguished Service Cross as manufactured by The Robbins Co. under contract to the US Army.  The medal and ribbon show only light age wear with bright, unfaded color to the ribbons. The award case is marked for the DSC, it shows some light interior wear and has a scuffed area to top of box at hinge side.  I would guess that this was an issued medal based on the signs of handling.

The Distinguished Service (DSC) is the second highest military decoration awarded by the United States Army. It is given to soldiers who demonstrate extraordinary heroism in combat against an enemy force. The actions that qualify for the Distinguished Service Cross must be of such a high degree that they surpass those required for all other U.S. combat decorations, except for the Medal of Honor.  During World War II, just over 5,000 awards were made. Army Air Forces Lieutenant Colonel John C. Meyer, Major General James A. Van Fleet, and Master Sergeant Llewellyn Chilson were three-time recipients. Jeannette Guyot and Virginia Hall were the only two women to receive the award.
