This is a Boyt 1943 manufactured USMC marked map case.  Named on reverse to Lt. D.O. Alford, USMCR.  This would be Dorman O. Alford, an SBD pilot in MAG 24.  Records indicate that he saw service with the unit throughout the Philippines campaign and was wounded in action. The map case shows use and wear and has a couple minor holes. The shoulder strap is a 1941 dated strap for a US Army musette bag.  The bag was used post war by another person and they attempted to mark over the military stampings, luckily, the markings are still legible.

MAG 24 was a unit that saw service during 1944-45 with a primary mission during the Philippine’s campaign of close air support for the attacking ground units.
