This is a well-matched USMC P41 haversack and knapsack set by Boyt. Upper pack is dated 1943 and lower is dated 1944. Both are in good and matching condition with all straps and buckles intact. There is some minor staining and signs of battlefield use. The upper pack is clearly named to “D. Castro” while the lower pack is also named but to another Marine.
The upper pack belonged to Pfc. David Castro of the 12th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, I Marine Amphibious Corps. He served with this unit throughout their campaigns, including the landings at Cape Gloucester and Peleliu. The unit engaged in intense combat in both battles, providing direct fire support during the Peleliu assault.
