This is the desirable red spacer PAL Blade Co. Marine Corps fighting knife. Blade is marked at ricasso “PAL” and opposite is “U.S.M.C.”. The correct and original scabbard is personalized with owner’s name and hometown, locations that he passed through or was stationed at and the signatures and hometowns of several of his buddies. Condition of the knife is very good with excellent and tight grip. Blade does not appear to have been sharpened and shows traces of parkerizing. Scabbard is very nice just showing a bit of crackling to finish on upper fastener loop and a minor bit at bottom. Most of the inscription is legible on scabbard.
Sgt. Joseph Horan served in the 4th Marine Air Wing and was active in the Pacific during 1944-45. Several names inscribed on the scabbard match those of individuals who served in the same unit, including a corporal from the 2nd Marine Division.
This knife is a fine addition to any collection of American military knives.
