This is an excellent and issued example of a WWII Paratrooper Jump Case for the M1A1 Carbine. Also known as the Scabbard, M1A1, Jump Case, or Paratrooper Holster, it was designed to carry and protect the M1A1 folding stock carbine during parachute jumps. The bags are padded with felt on the side facing the leg. The canvas belt holster was strapped to the leg at the bottom and slipped over the belt or parachute harness using a large belt loop. Since attaching it to both the belt and leg would restrict leg movement, it is presumed that the holster was primarily secured to the webbing.
This is an early example made in the lighter shade OD 3. There are no makers marks or U.S. on the case. It has been issued and shows wear and staining.
