A very scarce M-1 helmet with wartime painted 2nd Division insignia. The shell is a front seam, swivel bail Schlueter. The division insignia is the smaller version, indicative of the WW2 period, and is identical to other known original examples. The outer shell shows minor use wear, with the majority of wear on the top and around the bottom edge band. There is some loss of paint to the insignia around the top, but the paint appears stable at this time. There is a very light name on the chinstrap of the shell, which looks to be “H F Lenhart,” though the first two letters are very faint. The shell heat stamp is partially visible. The liner is an Inland in excellent condition.
This helmet is complete and untouched. It would be difficult to upgrade. It has an excellent collector lineage and is guaranteed to be original.
(Note: The white that appears to be overspray on the black shield is due to lighting.)
