A front seam, fixed bail M1 helmet that is an early battlefield recovery. The helmet has been hit, but not penetrated, by either a piece of shrapnel or a bullet. The interior has a painted laundry number visible “A1758”. Sadly, the recovery location has been lost to time.
Both bails are intact and the impact has caused the front of shell to crack is several places. Much of the faded paint remains with mostly pinprick rust spots over helmet body. A helmet that was in combat and has the possibility of identification with laundry number.
