This collection of military items belonged to Pfc. Felipe Savorillo of Santo Rita, New Mexico. He was inducted into active service on May 8, 1944, and discharged on September 1, 1946. Savorillo served as a rifleman in Company I, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division. He arrived in theater in time to participate in operations around Metz. During the German Ardennes offensive, the 5th Division was deployed to the southern sector of the Bulge in Luxembourg to initiate the counteroffensive. On December 26, 1944, Savorillo was wounded by an artillery burst and hospitalized for several weeks. He later rejoined his regiment and took part in operations in Germany until the end of German resistance.
